Gamblers asking to be banned at A.C. casinos4 March 2009ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey -- As reported by The Press of Atlantic City: "For some gamblers, the lure of the slot machines and gaming tables is simply too much. "When their gambling habit spins out of control, they can ask to be banned from the casinos. It seems more and more compulsive gamblers are doing just that as part of a voluntary program that began in New Jersey in 2001. "According to the latest statistics, the state recently added the 1,000th name to the 'self-exclusion list,' a program that has doubled in size in just the past three years. "...Gamblers have the option of signing up for a one-year ban, five years or a lifetime. Once a person is in the program, Atlantic City's 11 casinos are not allowed to let them on the gaming floor and must remove them from any mailing lists and stop offering them incentives to gamble. "...Pennsylvania also has a self-exclusion program. Since the program began in late 2006, 581 people who have acknowledged having a gambling problem have been placed on the list, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board..." copyrighted material written for and appeared exclusively in The Press of Atlantic City |
