Gambler Forced to Sell Kidney8 July 2004CHINA – As reported by the Shanghai Daily: "The Qingpu District Prosecutors' Office yesterday charged Li Shenghe with illegally detaining a man who allegedly owed Li and his friend money in order to force him to sell his kidney to pay off the debt. "Prosecutors allege Li and his accomplice Li Chuanxi, who is still at large, held Lu Rongfeng hostage for more than 10 days because Lu owed them 30,000 yuan (US$3,614). "Lu became addicted to gambling several years ago. In July 2003, he went to a casino in Qingpu District to try his luck for the first time, he told prosecutors. "…Prosecutors say Li Shenghe decided to detain him and asked him to sell his kidney. He and Li Chuanxi allegedly kidnapped Lu on the night of October 7, 2003. "…Lu said they went to Huashan Hospital, but doctors there refused to perform illegal operation. "…On their way to the parking lot, Lu saw a policeman and struggled to run to him for help…" |
