Gambler Denies Murder

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the (Australia) Herald Sun: "A gambler murdered his great aunt in a bid to solve his financial woes, a court heard yesterday.

"Matthew Joseph Marks is accused of bludgeoning Margaret Mary O'Toole, 69, up to 20 times with a hammer in her Serrell St, East Malvern, home two years ago. He has pleaded not guilty.

"A Supreme Court jury was told Mr Marks, 28, forged the elderly woman's signature on a $4000 cheque, which he then gambled away…"
