Gallagher Nixes Minority Employment Data Release

LAS VEGAS -- Park Place Chief Executive Officer Tom Gallagher said Monday night that his company has no near-term plan to publicly release its minority employment numbers.

Gallagher made the comments at The Venetian as he accepted an award from the Urban Chamber of Commerce on his company's behalf.

Park Place received the chamber's 2002 Enrichment Award as the corporation of the year, with chamber officials crediting the company's recent appointment of minority executives to important posts.

"Diversity is not about numbers and statistics and scorecards," Gallagher said. "It's about what we carry in our hearts."

Gallagher said Park Place's inclusion of ethnic and racial minorities was a company-wide strength, but said he doesn't want those numbers used for comparisons with other companies.
