French Lick Residents Sound Off Over Stalled Casino Plans

INDIANA – As reported by the WAVE3 News: "Residents in Orange County, Indiana are frustrated about stalled plans to build a casino in French Lick. As WAVE 3 Investigator Eric Flack reports, more than a half-million dollars wasted is at the heart of their concerns.

"Residents filled the Orange County Community Center Thursday, hoping for good news about the plan to revive their community.

"But ever since the Donald Trump casino deal officially died earlier this month, there hasn't been much worth talking about.

"'Yes, there have been plenty of mistakes,' said State Representative Jerry Denbo, the man spearheading the casino effort.

"…So far, there are $600,000 worth of legal fees, racked up by the local historic preservation committee. The money was spent mostly trying to lure Donald Trump into town, then trying to keep the deal alive.

"Now many believe that money was wasted.

"...Denbo said there are at least two groups still interested in building the casino, including one partially controlled by basketball legend and French Lick native Larry Bird…"
