French Lick partners told to settle differences

PAOLI, Indiana – As reported by the Bedford Mail-Times: "Lawyers outnumbered spectators Tuesday during a daylong Orange Circuit Court hearing further delving into the bitter dispute between the partners that developed the French Lick Springs Resort Casino.

"Orange Circuit Judge Larry Blanton let both sides know he wished they could settle their differences outside the courtroom.

"'Sometime, someplace, someone from Cook and someone from Lauth is going to have to sit down and bring some common sense and resolution to this matter,' the judge said. 'What we have here is an economic and financial divorce in the making. Let's either get on with it, or kiss and make up.'

"One issue debated Tuesday involved Orange County Holdings LLC, formed to oversee financing for the casino project, and its refusal to continue court-ordered mediation. A three-member panel of mediators determined in No-vember that OCH could not take over 25 percent of the casino ownership from Lauth Resorts & Casino Inc., its partner in the project…"
