French Lick Casino Holds Second Job Fair11 July 2006FRENCH LICK, Indiana – (PRESS RELEASE) -- The unemployment rate in Orange County got a much needed boost recently when the French Lick Casino & Resort funneled 2,000 people through a job fair at West Baden Springs Hotel. Following the fair, which was held June 9-10, officials were pleased to be able to extend 350 hourly and management job offers, pending customary pre-employment screening. An additional 350 applicants have been identified for positions that will be staffed closer to the opening in November. More part-time and full-time workers for the casino are being sought, and interested applicants should contact the resort's human resource department at (812) 936-9300. The first round of dealer training for craps, roulette and poker begins July 17, and 110 people have already enrolled. Blackjack training will start Aug. 7. Training will last 10-12 weeks, Monday through Thursday, and will take place at the French Lick Resort & Casino pre-opening offices located on Highway 145 in French Lick. Another job fair is scheduled for Aug. 18-19 at West Baden Springs Hotel. At that time, resort and casino officials hope to find an additional 600 people for line-level positions, such as front desk, food service and room attendants, to name a few. "We couldn't be happier with the turnout we had for our June job fair," said Scott Spurlock, general manager of the French Lick Springs Hotel. "With the additional job fair in August, we fully expect to have all positions filled prior to the resort and casino opening in November." The WorkOne offices in Bedford, Bloomington and New Albany will again be involved in the August job fair and assist in the application and placement process. The massive hiring effort is a welcome response to the high unemployment rates that have plagued Orange County and the surrounding community. The French Lick Resort & Casino is a $382 million historic restoration and casino development project that includes the French Lick Springs Hotel, the new French Lick Casino (both opening November 2006) and the West Baden Springs Hotel (opening June 2007). When complete, this premier resort and casino destination will feature 684 guest rooms and suites; an 84,000-square-foot casino with a 42,000-square-foot, single-level gaming floor; 45 holes of golf, including the fully restored 1920-designed Donald Ross Course (opening August 2006) and a new, 18-hole Pete Dye course (opening spring 2008); two full-service spas with a combined 36 treatment rooms totaling 41,000 square feet; and an array of dining and entertainment options. |
