French Lick Casino Advocate, Wife Killed in Car Crash

FRENCH LICK, IND. -- As reported by the Associated Press: "A preservationist who was active in efforts to bring a casino to southern Indiana's Orange County was killed along with his wife in a car crash.

"Jack Carnes, 71, and his wife Martha, 68, were driving in Orange County Tuesday when another vehicle crossed the centerline and hit their car head-on, police said.

"Carnes was chairman of the area's Historic Hotel Preservation Commission and had been active since 1991 in efforts to win approval for a casino in the town about 60 miles northwest of Louisville, Ky.

"The French Lick casino, being developed by Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts, will become a reality thanks in part to Jack Carnes' efforts, said Glenn Lawrence, executive director of the Indiana Gaming Commission..."
