Foxwoods reports August slot revenue down

MASHANTUCKET, Connecticut -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Foxwoods Resort Casino reported today that its slot revenue for August 2013 totaled $48.6 million on handle of $586.8 million. The figures represented declines of 3.7 percent and 1.0 percent respectively from the totals reported for August 2012.

The Casino contributed $12.5 million to the Connecticut Special Revenue Fund based on its August slot results. The cumulative contribution to the state of Connecticut since Foxwoods opened in 1992 rose to $3.53 billion.
The Resort plays host to top national acts over the next month with the distinct musical stylings of Grammy Award winners taking center stage. Shrine will host AfroJack (Sept. 20) while Lionel Ritchie (Sept. 22) and Steely Dan (Sept. 28) are featured in concert at the MGM Grand Theater. Comedian Kathleen Madigan headlines at the Fox Theater on Sept. 27 and tops the list of comedy acts – including Last Comix Standing, Dueling Comix Pianos, and Pre-Game Comix – beginning this Fall. Real Pirates: The Untold Story of the Whydah debuts in the Great Cedar Exhibition Hall at Foxwoods Resort Casino beginning on Sept. 21. The touring exhibition, organized by National Geographic and Premier Exhibitions, Inc., brings the classical age of 18th century piracy to life by showcasing over 200 artifacts recovered from the wreck site of the Whydah, the world’s first authenticated pirate ship discovered 150 miles away from Foxwoods off the coast of Cape Cod.
At the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center, visitors may choose from a variety of fascinating events. On Sept. 21, the Museum features a discussion Preserved on the Mighty Waters: The Indian Mariners Project with Dr. Jason Mancini. Gifts of Land: Fall Thanksgiving Harvest is the feature on Sept. 27-28. Also on the 28, visitors are invited to join “Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day”; and educators may attend the Museum’s Educators’ Open House. Activities in early October include the monthly Beading Circle, the Kayak Tour of Mystic River and the Gourd Family Bowl Workshop.
