Foxwoods not concerned by Sands Macau's claims

NORWICH, Connecticut – As reported by the Norwich Bulletin: "Foxwoods Resort Casino is being undermined by a competitor half a world away, although that should have no bearing on the success of Eastern Connecticut's popular gaming facility.

"The Sands Macau in the People's Republic of China claims to be the world's largest casino -- a title Foxwoods also claims and uses as part of its advertising.

"But Foxwoods spokesman Bruce MacDonald said the casino, owned and operated by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, was not much concerned with Sands Macau's claim.

"...Even if the claim were true, Sands Macau -- located near Hong Kong in the South China Sea, 12,000 miles from Foxwoods -- won't be competing for Foxwoods' clientele.

"…Right now, though, it looks as though the 227,000-square-foot Sands Macau is, at best, the world's third largest casino -- behind Foxwoods and Eastern Connecticut's other Indian-owned casino, Mohegan Sun, which has 300,000 square feet of gaming space…"
