Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun Help Keep Boxing Afloat6 February 2006CONNECTICUT -- As reported by the Norwich Bulletin: "Boxing has seen better days, but Native American casinos are latching on to the sport and that may help revive it. "A number of factors have pushed boxing out of the spotlight in the last two decades -- the lackluster heavyweight division, too many sanctioning bodies, which make recognizing a champion difficult, major networks shying from televising matches and the image of boxing as a violent sport. "...But Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun, along with dozens of other Indian casinos across the country, could give boxing the grassroots help it needs. "...Casino boxing is not a new trend, but the emergence of Indian casinos has given the sport many new venues and a chance to reach more local crowds that might not have traveled to Las Vegas or Atlantic City to see a fight..." |
