Four men plead guilty in NY gambling ring case

ALBANY, New York -- As reported by the (Albany) Times Union: "Four men accused a year ago of operating an illegal gambling ring in Albany and Saratoga counties all pleaded guilty to lesser charges.

"Cory C. Reynolds, who police said was the ringleader of an operation that booked $1.7 million in illegal bets in four months, pleaded guilty in May to two counts of first-degree promoting gambling, a class E felony. Reynolds, a co-owner of the Albany Strength Gym, was sentenced to four months of weekends in jail in Saratoga County, according to the Saratoga County district attorney's office. He originally was charged with enterprise corruption as well as eight counts of first-degree promoting gambling.

"...When the four men were arrested Nov. 27 of last year, Albany County and state law enforcement officials said they had broken up a gambling ring that specialized in taking illegal bets on sporting events.

"The Albany County Sheriff's Department and other agencies recovered $50,000 in cash, piles of betting slips, a 9mm rifle, as well as marijuana, cocaine and hallucinogenic mushrooms from raids in Colonie, Round Lake and East Greenbush...."
