Four Israeli Men Arrested for Running Gambling Ring

ISRAEL -- As reported by Haaretz: ``Police arrested four men from the northern town of Kiryat Shmona on Wednesday morning, on suspicion of operating a nation-wide illegal gambling ring.

``Police from the Central Unit of the Galilee District Police also believe the men defrauded the gamblers who used their service.

``Income tax investigators are also participating in the questioning of the suspects, as they are also believed to have evaded paying taxes on the earnings from their alleged operations.

```The suspects copied the system used by legal [gambling] authorities,' the head of the Galilee Central Unit, Efraim Laibeh, said Wednesday. 'They found 500-700 gamblers at Toto soccer pools stands and kiosks and offered them a better deal, including payments on credit. They then sent in heavies to get money from anyone who couldn't pay their debts.'…"
