Four Bids Received for South African Licenses

SOUTH AFRICA – As reported by the South Africa Daily News: "Four bids have been received for KwaZulu-Natal's 'pub and club' gambling licences - but it will be at least another six months before the bells start ringing on the first legal one-arm bandit machines on sites other than the major casinos.

"The four bidders for the licences which allow each operator to have up to 1 000 machines are Luck-At-It Pty Ltd, Vukani Gaming KwaZulu-Natal, Gold Circle KwaZulu-Natal and Thuo Gaming KwaZulu-Natal (part of the Australian Tattersalls Group). They have submitted requests for licences for between one and five machines on between 190 and 334 sites.

"…However, these licences are only for the actual owners and operators of the gambling machines. Once these are granted, the licence holders then have to enter into agreements with owners of appropriate sites…"
