Former Vegas Exec to Run Fandango

CARSON CITY, Nevada -- Carson City's newest casino, the Fandango, will open by Friday and it will be run by a former Las Vegas gaming executive.

Larry Woolf, a former executive at MGM Grand in Las Vegas and at Caesars Tahoe, will be operating the club that will initially have 175 slot machines and five table games.

The club, located in an abandoned building formerly housing Supply One, is south of the downtown area.

The state Gaming Commission gave final approval to the application last week at its meeting in Las Vegas. The Fandango plans to have up to 600 slot machines by the end of the year.

Woolf is the only person licensed so far for the operation. But real estate developer Gary Goett of Las Vegas will hold 94 percent and architect Peter Wilday and Woolf will each have 3 percent.

The applications of Goett and Wilday are pending and they were cautioned not to have any hand in the operation until they are approved by the state.

Brian Harris, attorney for Woolf, said the Fandango must open by Aug. 1 to get under the deadline of a new Carson City ordinance that an unrestricted gaming operation must have 100 rooms.
