Former Tropicana worker sues18 July 2007ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey -- As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "A former floorman at the Tropicana Casino and Resort has filed suit against the casino for wrongful termination, saying he was 'unceremoniously fired' because he publicly advocated a smoke-free workplace. "Vincent Rennich, of Somers Point, was let go on March 5, one week after he testified about the health hazards of second-hand smoke in casinos in front of the state Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee, according to the complaint filed in Superior Court in Atlantic City. "...His firing was a violation of the New Jersey Conscientious Employee Protection Act, the lawsuit claims. "...Columbia Sussex Corporation bought the Tropicana from Aztar Corporation on Jan. 3, and has since laid off about 700 employees — or about 15 percent of its workforce — as a cost-cutting measure. "...In his suit, Rennich is seeking lost wages and interest, compensation for pain and suffering, legal fees and punitive damages..." copyrighted material written for and appeared exclusively in The Press of Atlantic City |
