Former San Francisco Mayor Lobbying for Casino

BARSTOW, California – As reported by the San Mateo County Times: " Just when you thought he'd left the stage, Willie Brown is back as the Indian gaming go-to guy.

"Once the 'Ayatollah of the Assembly' and 'Da Mayor,' Brown's new job is lobbying to bring an Indian casino to the desert community of Barstow. He was hired two months ago by the Los Coyotes Band of Cahuilla and Cupeo Indians of San Diego County and Detroit-based development company BarWest.

"…'He knows everyone,' said Tom Shields, spokesman for BarWest.

"…Shields said he couldn't give specifics about what Brown is doing for the project, other than setting up some meetings.

"But he said Brown helps Los Coyotes stand out among the crowd of tribes trying to negotiate gaming compacts with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"Other than a 32-year stint in Sacramento and eight years in San Francisco, Brown was on Schwarzenegger's transition team late last year…"
