Former official hopes to derail Rohnert Park proposal

CALIFORNIA -- As reported by the Press Democrat: "Sonoma County voters would weigh in on a proposed casino near Rohnert Park under a proposal by a former Petaluma city councilman who hopes a vote against it could derail the tribal gambling hall.

"...The measure would be advisory only, but attorney Mike Healy thinks it could send a powerful message.

"...In an election last year, Petaluma voters overwhelmingly approved a measure instructing their elected officials to do all they could to fight a potential casino on the south end of the city. The advisory measure passed by a 4-1 margin.

"...The Federated Indians of the Graton Rancheria are proposing a $450 million casino and 300-room hotel on 360 acres west of Highway 101.

"...Greg Sarris, the tribal chairman, called the proposed vote divisive and unnecessary because it is nonbinding..."
