Former MP says offshore bookmakers should be made to pay levy

20 October 2010

LONDON, England -- A former Conservative party leader believes offshore bookmakers must contribute to the racing levy, according to The Guardian.

Michael Howard is the chairman of Northern Racing, a racecourse group, the report said.

The racing levy is currently steeped in a dispute between the racing industry and bookmakers, The Guardian said

The levy declined to £75m for 2009-10, while bookmakers are set to offer no more than £50m for next year, The Guardian report explained.
