Former judge heads Australian gambling license review8 March 2007VICTORIA, Australia – As reported by the Australia Herald Sun: "Former Federal Court judge Ron Merkel has been appointed to oversee the State Government's controversial review of gambling licenses. "Mr Merkel, QC, will chair a four-person panel examining the recommendations of the Government's original gaming license steering committee. "The judicial review was announced on the eve of last year's state election after Herald Sun revelations of the activities of lobbyist David White. "Mr White was paid by Tattersall's to help extend its control over Victoria's multi-billion-dollar pokies and lotteries industry. "…Gaming Minister Daniel Andrews said Mr Merkel's team would provide another layer of scrutiny to the licensing process.
