Former Governor Criticizes Minnesota Proposal8 April 2005MINNESOTA – As reported by the Twin Cities Star Tribune: "The previous Republican governor rebuked the current Republican governor Thursday for his proposal to open a state-run casino in the Twin Cities, warning that 'horrendous social costs' would overshadow gambling revenue for state government. "'Who is going to stand up five years from now and take responsibility for the outcome?' asked former Gov. Arne Carlson at a forum sponsored by Edina Community Lutheran Church, "Carlson criticized Gov. Tim Pawlenty for turning to state-sponsored gambling to balance the budget and said twice as much money could be generated by raising the state sales tax on cigarettes…" |
