Former Government Worker Sentenced for Fraud3 June 2004EDMONTON, Alberta – As reported by the Canadian Press: "A former senior civil servant who defrauded the Alberta government of $124,000 to feed a desperate gambling habit was sentenced Thursday to nine months in jail. "Raymond Reshke will also have to perform 100 hours of community service once he is released, said Justice Mary Moreau of Court of Queen's Bench. "…Reshke, who will also be on probation for two years after his release, must also pay back almost $19,000 he put on government credit cards for personal expenses. "…Despite his criminal record - and the fact that he had been caught twice using government credit cards for personal expenses - he kept his job. "It was only after his boss retired that a successor discovered there were outstanding credit card charges of more than $18,000, and Reshke had awarded $106,000 in government contracts to a friend, David Lamash, in order to repay money he borrowed for VLTs…" |
