Former Fort Bend Official Admits to Theft

RICHMOND, Virginia -- As reported by the Houston Chronicle: "After admitting in court that she used money stolen from a 4-H Parent Leaders bank account to pay gambling debts, former Fort Bend County Treasurer Jeanne Parr was given five years deferred adjudication and sent to jail for 14 days.

"Parr, 44, was led from the courtroom in handcuffs after state District Judge Thomas R. Culver III handed down the sentence.

"She was indicted on charges of theft, tampering with a government record and misapplication of a fiduciary property.

"… investigators uncovered evidence that showed Parr made almost weekly trips to Louisiana to gamble and that she lost at least $46,000.

"All the offenses to which Parr pleaded guilty happened before she took office in January 2003 and are connected to her role as president and treasurer of the 4-H Parent Leaders Club and a Future Farmers of America booster club…"
