Former Cop Named to Pennsylvania Gaming Board

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania – As reported by the Associated Press: "A former Philadelphia police officer who supervised the task force that took down 'Little Nicky' Scarfo's mob organization is to be appointed to the state's new gambling commission, statehouse sources said Wednesday.

"Gov. Ed Rendell was scheduled to announce the appointment of Frank Friel on Wednesday afternoon in Philadelphia, said two people familiar with the appointment, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

"…Two of the seven appointments have already been made by legislative leaders, and two more are anticipated.

"…The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board was created to regulate and license 14 gambling halls and up to 61,000 slot machines created by legislation signed July 5 by Rendell…"
