Former Coach Won't Face NCAA Penalties20 October 2004SEATTLE, Washington – As reported by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer: " The NCAA will issue a ruling today in the case that ended Rick Neuheisel's career at the University of Washington, ripped apart its proud football program and forced a complete overhaul of the school's athletic department. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer has learned that the NCAA will issue no penalties against Neuheisel -- a result that figures to turn him into a top candidate for any Division 1-A coaching opening and strengthen his case for wrongful termination against the UW. "Neuheisel, 43, was charged with gambling violations based on his twice participating in a high-stakes pool on the NCAA basketball tournament -- charges that led to his dismissal -- but he defended himself with two memos from Washington's compliance department that appeared to sanction his behavior. "…Neuheisel has pending lawsuits against the both the NCAA and the UW, and the ruling figures to provide him significant momentum for both cases…" |
