6 December 2004

TEXAS CITY -- As reported by the Galveston County Daily News: "Former Texas City mayoral candidate Frank Skaggs was arrested Sunday on charges of keeping a gambling place at Shenanigans Nightclub, 820 34th St. N., police said. Skaggs is the owner of the club.

"Keeping a gambling place is a class A misdemeanor, said Sgt. Rex Spotted Bear of the Texas City Police Department's special crimes unit. Numerous citations also were issued to patrons at the club for gambling, a class C misdemeanor, police said.

"More than 80 people were playing in a Texas Hold'em poker tournament at the time of the raid..."

"...Sarah Skaggs (Frank Skaggs wife) said that before the tournament got under way her husband contacted the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission and local police to see if it would be legal.

"...local police never responded to her husband's inquiry so they went ahead with the tournament.
