Former Alderman Funds Casino Campaign

LONG BEACH, Mississippi – As reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald: "Jimmy Levens, the former Long Beach alderman who has an option to buy a potential casino site, is funding the campaign to allow land-based gambling in the city.

"Gulf Coast Marine Fabricators LLC, a company owned by Levens, made a contribution of $65,212.33 to the Committee for Long Beach, according to a campaign finance report the pro-casino organization filed Tuesday with the Long Beach city clerk. The organization reported no other contributions. It has spent all the $65,213.33.

"The report may not indicate it, but Levens said he believes a land-based casino has broad-based support.

"…A company owned by Levens' daughters, A&A Management Group, gave $15,000 to the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce, which then gave a similar amount to the city to cover the cost of next Tuesday's non-binding referendum on whether to allow a casino on the north side of U.S. 90 across from the harbor…"
