For these Vegas Players, Blackjack Always Goes Swimmingly

Las Vegas -- As reported by the San Francisco Gate: ``There is nothing weird about gambling in the middle of a hotel swimming pool in Las Vegas, and not just because nothing is weird in Las Vegas.

``...The other day at the Tropicana Hotel pool, Clark was taking a lot of it. A man in a yellow swimsuit kept splitting 10s, which is as dumb a thing to do in a pool as on dry land. The cards were wet, the chips were wet, the strategy was wet.

``...Swim-up blackjack is the essence of Las Vegas, all in one soggy institution. Like Las Vegas, it is exciting in a goofy way, it appears to be a restful retreat when it really isn't, and it is devilishly ingenious.

``...With five aquatic tables in town, that means that -- at any given time -- 35 people are gambling in a swimming pool.

``...`It's outdoors, and I can keep an eye on the kids and still do Vegas,' explained Bill, a gambler from Los Angeles, sitting on a submerged stool at the Tropicana..."
