Florida Slot Forces Names Spokesperson20 September 2004FLORIDA – As reported by the South Florida Business Journal: "The sponsor of a Nov. 2 ballot initiative for slot machines at pari-mutuel facilities in Miami-Dade and Broward counties said it has named a former Florida Education Commissioner as its spokesman. "In addition to appointing Jim Horne, Yes for Local Control, the pari-mutuel industry-funded sponsor of Amendment 4, also said it has received an endorsement from the Florida Education Association, the state's largest teachers union. "If Florida voters approve Amendment 4, voters in Miami-Dade and Broward would be permitted to hold separate elections to determine if their counties' thoroughbred, harness and greyhound tracks and jai-alai frontons could install slot machines. "…Yes for Local Control estimates slot machines at South Florida pari-mutuels in their first full year would produce at least $438 million for Florida schools…" |
