Florida nurse hits $1.1 million slot jackpot

28 March 2012

COCONUT CREEK, Florida -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- A Boca Raton nurse hit the million dollar jackpot on a MegaBucks® wide-area progressive slot machine at around 10 p.m. on Fri. Mar. 16 in Seminole Casino Coconut Creek.

$1,108,096 to be exact.

The woman was accompanied by her adult daughter and requested to remain anonymous.

“It always creates an exciting buzz when someone hits here. But there’s a good reason we call our casino ‘Florida’s Jackpot Capital,’” said Steve Bonner, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek president.

Manufactured by International Gaming Technology (NYSE:IGT) MegaBucks is a dollar slot machine that must have $3 played to hit the jackpot. Each has its own random number generator that chooses outcomes that are reported to a central station. This type of slot machine is called a wide-area progressive because when the jackpot is hit, the central station sends out a message to the other thousands of MegaBucks across the country to reset their meters.

The MegaBucks was actually the first wide-area progressive system when introduced in 1986. According to IGT, more than $1 billion in MegaBucks jackpots have been won since then.

With its $150 million expansion in February, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek now offers more than 2,300 slot machines on its 100,000 square foot gaming floor. Two of the most popular games are The Hangover and Leprechaun Gold. Some of the most popular progressive slot machine titles are Ghost Busters, Diamond Jackpots, Vegas Paradise, Monopoly Big Event, Wizard of Oz and Slingo Bonus. Denominations range from one cent to $100.
