Florida lawmakers to duscuss Seminole gambling20 March 2009TALLAHASSEE, Florida -- As reported by The Miami Herald: "The debate over the Seminole gambling compact rekindles Friday when a panel of House lawmakers hears about its economic effects. "While the focus of the report will be the deal's impact on tourist resorts, the debate has broader issues. "House and Senate leaders have broken over whether to let the Seminole Tribe keep dealing Las Vegas-style card games at its casinos. The House has resisted and signaled it could soon craft a new proposal for the deal. "But Gov. Charlie Crist has built his budget on the added revenue from the compact, which the Supreme Court shot down last July because blackjack and other games weren't legal in Florida..." |
