Florida casino opens with Vegas-style slots

MIAMI, Florida -- As reported by the Miami Herald: "A family dream born three decades ago finally came to fruition Thursday morning as Flagler Dog Track threw the doors open to its slots casino -- with flashing lights, whirling sounds and a pretty full house.

"The Magic City Casino formally opened at 10 a.m., the culmination of years of determined lobbying and work by the Havenick family, which has operated the parimutuel for generations.

"'You cannot believe how excited we are,' said Barbara Havenick, the track's CEO. 'This is going to have a great impact on the whole Miami-Dade community.'

"Flagler, at Northwest Seventh Street and 37th Avenue in Miami, is the first Dade racino with Vegas-style slots, which have been in place in Broward parimutuels since 2006..."
