Fire at Borgata construction site

24 September 2007

NEW JERSEY -- As reported by the New Jersey Courier Post: "A fire broke out Sunday morning at the construction site at The Water Club, a hotel being built adjacent to Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. The first report came in around 7:30 a.m.

"T'he sprinkler system engaged immediately and an alarm went out,' said Larry Mullin, Borgata President, who arrived at 8 a.m. to a scene of smoke and flames.

"Debris fell off the sides of the building and the fire fighters from the Atlantic City Fire Department brought the blaze under control in about an hour, Mullin said.

"...A skeleton crew of about a dozen people were on the job site at the time. There were no evacuations of employees or visitors to Borgata, Mullin said.

"...The fire went to three alarms, the highest in Atlantic City before triggering mutual aid. As it was, firefighters from other municipalities had to staff Atlantic City stations to free up enough staff on the scene.

"Visible damage was limited to the exterior on the south side of the 43-story building scheduled to open as an upscale hotel by the end of March..."
