Fine proposed for minors caught in casinos6 December 2006AUSTRALIA – As reported by Adelaide Now: "An unprecedented number of minors have been refused entry to SkyCity Casino in the past year. "Nearly 15,000 more underage people were caught trying to enter the Casino in 2005/06 than the previous year. "No Pokies MLC Nick Xenophon yesterday told The Advertiser he will introduce a Bill to Parliament early next year which would see minors automatically fined $160 if they tried to enter a licensed venue, with increased penalties for repeat offenders. "Mr Xenophon also wants the Casino fined $100,000 if minors are found to be on the premises - eight of which were caught last financial year - which is a five-fold increase of the current penalty. "…A spokesman for Gambling Minister Paul Caica said anyone who looked under 25-years-old was checked for identification and only three forms of identification were accepted…" |
