Finance Minister: Nova Scotia Can't Stop VLTS5 May 2004NOVA SCOTIA – As reported by the Broadcast News: "Nova Scotia's finance minister admits allowing aboriginal bands to set up more video lottery terminals defeats the purpose of a moratorium on the gambling devices. "But Peter Christie says the province has little control over what actions are taken by native bands. "In the late 1990's, the Conservatives, while in opposition, pushed the former Liberal government to cap the number of VLT's at 32-hundred province-wide. "Aboriginal bands recently negotiated an increase, which will amount to an extra 47 machines on reserve property…" |
