Filipino Senator Opposes Jueteng Legalization

PHILIPPIINES – As reported by the Philippine Star: "Sen. Aquilino Pimentel Jr. opposed yesterday yet another attempt to legalize the popular numbers game jueteng.

"Pimentel said the proposal's resurrection by some members of the House of Representatives, with the open support of some law enforcement officials, was an indication that the government's anti-gambling policy lacked coherence.

"'It would be preposterous for Congress to consider the legalization of jueteng in the same year it passed a law making illegal gambling punishable with heavy fines and longer prison sentences,' he said…"
