Filipino Official Admits to Meeting Casino Mogul

PHILIPPINES – As reported by the Manila Times: "Malacañang on Monday backpedaled on its dealings with Macau's casino magnate, Stanley Ho, admitting for the first time that a government official had met with him.

"Deputy spokesman Ricardo Saludo told reporters that Dan Roleda, who had met Ho, had indeed been appointed as presidential assistant for foreign investments on March 4. Palace officials had denied even knowing who Roleda was.

"…Saludo was quick to add that neither President Arroyo nor Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) chief Ephraim Genuino had any knowledge of Roleda's meeting with Ho.

"He pointed out that although Roleda is a presidential assistant who could report either to Executive Secretary Alberto Romulo or directly to President Arroyo, he did not inform the Palace of his meeting with Ho…"
