Few Using Tennessee Problem Gambling Program29 November 2005TENNESSEE – As reported by the Tennessean: "A $200,000 treatment program launched to help people who are addicted to the Tennessee Lottery got under way this summer, but so far relatively few people have participated. "It's estimated that there are 18,000 problem gamblers in Middle Tennessee. And while 350 people have been screened through the new state-funded program in that 44-county area, only 12 have gone on to receive counseling. "…The program is being offered to anyone who gambles excessively, whether their betting is on the lottery, in casinos or on the Internet. "…The grant pays for free screenings to determine if people have a gambling addiction and counseling on a sliding-fee scale at many locations across the state…" |
