Few answers at Illinois bingo hearing16 May 2007ILLINOIS -- As reported by the Chicago Tribune: "Hundreds of people came to hear what Rep. Dennis Hastert and other federal officials had to say about a Native American tribe's plan to open a bingo hall in unincorporated DeKalb County near Shabbona. "But those who came Monday night seeking answers to vexing questions, such as whether the 128-acre farm off University Road is federally recognized reservation land as the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation claims, were left unsatisfied. "...The Prairie Band Potawatomi of Mayetta, Kan., maintains that the farm is part of 1,280 acres given to Chief Shab-eh-nay in 1829. The tribe says the land should be considered reservation land and open to gaming. The Prairie Band Potawatomi operates a casino on their reservation near Mayetta..." |
