Feds Release Tropicana Garage Collapse Report29 April 2004ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "The federal government will release findings today from its investigation of the Tropicana Casino and Resort garage collapse that killed four men and injured 21 more in October. "It is not known if the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration's report will address the cause of the Oct. 30 collapse as part of its findings, which focus on whether safety standards were violated at the construction site, OSHA spokeswoman Kate Dugan said Wednesday. "…The collapse happened during a concrete pour on the 12-story structure's top deck, sending it and four other floors crashing down as hundreds of workers inside ran for their lives. "From the day of the collapse, OSHA's lead investigator for the region said the probe would include investigating whether concrete was laid too fast, without time for it to dry. "Pennsylvania-based Keating Building Corporation is the project's general contractor, and Egg Harbor Township-based Fabi Construction Inc. is the concrete subcontractor. "…While OSHA officials have not said whether the report will address the cause of the deadly accident, the widows of two men killed in the collapse filed a lawsuit in November naming Fabi, Keating and Tropicana as responsible parties…" |
