Federal Bureau Reviews California Casino Proposal18 October 2004HESPERIA, California – As reported by the San Bernardino County Sun: "Scores of issues and concerns involving a proposed tribal casino resort in Hesperia are under review by the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs. "The concerns were outlined in a scoping report prepared by the bureau as a prelude to a preliminary environmental impact statement expected to be released early next year. "'When our analysis is completed, it will be presented in the draft impact statement on the project,' bureau spokesman John Rydzik said. "…More than 20 issues involving the potential impact of a west side casino proposed by the Timbisha Shoshone tribe of Death Valley were presented at a bureau-sponsored hearing here in April. "Most concerns dealt with the casino's potential impact on water supply and quality, noise, traffic, land use planning, public services, tribal issues and community character. "The Timbisha Shoshones have proposed placing a 58-acre site on Main Street, west of Interstate 15, into federal trust on behalf of the tribe…" |
