Fatigue to be Considered in Bus Crash Investigation26 May 2004LOUISIANA -- As reported by the Houston Chronicle: `` Driver fatigue is one of the areas being investigated in Monday's fatal accident in which a motorcoach returning to Houston from a Louisiana casino slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer. ``The driver of the Coach USA bus, Herman Benton, said Tuesday he was uncertain how the accident, about 30 miles east of Houston on Interstate 10, happened. One passenger, however, said he thought Benton was asleep. ```I shouldn't say this, but I'm 99.9 percent sure that he (the driver) was asleep,' said Joe Crosby, 55, a retired merchant mariner from Houston. The cause of the accident has not been determined and driver fatigue will be one of the areas investigated, said Richard Vasser, Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman. ``…Vasser said a team of investigators would take measurements and then use scientific formulas to reconstruct the accident. ``…The bus trip home began at 4 a.m. Monday after the tour group had spent four hours in a Lake Charles casino.
