Fantasy Springs hosts welterweight title bout

11 July 2008

INDIO, California -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Fantasy Springs Resort Casino invites boxing fans 21 and older, to see, what boxing critics are calling, "the fight of the year", pitting WBA Welterweight Champion, Miguel Cotto (Koe-Toe) against IBF Welterweight Champion, Antonio Margarito on Saturday, July 26th, 2008.

The bout will be presented live from Las Vegas, Nevada on state of the art flat screen TVs throughout the casino, beginning at 6:00pm Pacific Time. Admission is free.

Miguel Cotto comes into this fight with an impressive professional record (32-0, 26 KOs) and is looking to prove himself to the world as the #1 Welterweight in the world. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, the 26 year old Cotto took to boxing at the age of 11 and fell in love with the sport. He had 125 amateur fights and was the National Amateur Boxing Champion from 1997 to 2000. He represented his country in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. Cotto's unique switch hitting style of boxing keeps his opponents off balance and has defeated champions including DeMarcus Corley, Randall Bailey, Carlos Maussa and Cesar Bazan.

Mexican fighter, Antonio Margarito has been called one of the most feared boxers in the game. The 30 year old boasts a record of 36-5 with 26 KOs and has tremendous hitting power. A 2 time welterweight champion, Margarito defended his title 7 times during a 5 year stint before being defeated by Paul Williams in 2007. Margarito recently won the IBF welterweight title, defeating Kermit Cintron on April 12th with a 6th round knockout.

The 12 round, Championship fight will be called by the broadcasting team of Bob Papa, Max Kellerman and former champion, Lennox Lewis.
