Fallon Arrested in Fixing Probe

1 September 2004

UK -- As reported by the BBC: "Champion jockey Kieren Fallon is one of three jockeys who have been arrested by police in a probe into alleged fixing of horse races.

"Raids at addresses across Suffolk, North Yorkshire and South Yorkshire led to the arrest of 16 people.

"Eleven of those, thought to include Fallon, were later released on bail. Five others remained in custody.

"The other two jockeys are Darren Williams and Fergal Lynch while trainer Karl Burke has also been arrested.

"The investigation centres on the suspicion of corruption within racing and fixing the outcome of horse races.

"It is understood that the allegations of conspiracy to defraud involve more than 80 races over the last two years.

"...Jockey Club director of public relations John Maxse said: 'This is an investigation which was initially handled by the Jockey Club, then it was passed on to the City of London police earlier this year.'..."
