Fake Letters Overshadow Casino Proposal4 February 2004VICTORIA – As reported by the Victoria Times-Colonist: "A batch of phoney letters in support of a $52-million casino/hotel project planned for Douglas Street is unfairly overshadowing the benefits of the proposal, its developer says. "Victoria businessman John Asfar, head of Vancouver Island Entertainment Inc., said Tuesday evening that the eight or nine suspect letters came through a third party not connected directly with the project. "The letters, offering support for the casino concept, were attributed to people who had not signed them, or who were not employed at the places they were purported to represent. "…The proposal for the casino, with two adjacent, 12-storey hotel towers, surfaced last week when Asfar went to the city's planning department with concept plans for the development…" |
