Fake $1,000 tokens found at Australia casino

MELBOURNE, Australia -- As reported by The Sydney Morning Herald: "Crown Casino has defended its in-house security after counterfeit gambling chips were found on the gaming floor this week.

"The Melbourne casino audited $13.7 million worth of chips after a casino worker handed in a fake $1000 chip on Thursday.

"Police say there is no evidence yet the fraud is part of any national or international sting, however counterfeit casino chips are a worldwide problem.

"Crown recalled all 13,700 of its $1000 chips and found 36 fakes, or $36,000 worth.

"Casino spokesman Gary O'Neill said Crown immediately replaced all of the $1000 chips with new versions and checked other chips..."
