Expert: Nova Scotia VLT Plan Falls Short

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia – As reported by the CBC: "One of the province's own experts on problem gambling is comparing the government's new gaming strategy to a stool that doesn't work properly.

"'What we have here in my honest opinion is a stool with perhaps two and one-half legs,' John LaRocque, co-ordinator of problem gambling services, told a group of MLAs Wednesday.

"…The plan calls for the elimination of 1,000 video lottery terminals – about one-quarter of the gambling devices in the province – as a way to curb problem gambling.

"…One of the reasons he doesn't like the plan is because the idea of an outright ban on VLTs is dismissed. The Conservative government argues a ban would simply force the machines underground…"
