Evangeline Downs Opens Casino

LOUISIANA – As reported by the (St. Landry Parish) Daily World: "Evangeline Downs is opening its new casino to the public on Dec. 19, three months earlier than planned and just prior to the Christmas holidays.

"`We are delighted that we will bring this project to fruition ahead of schedule due to the tremendous efforts of our management and construction teams,' said Mike Luzich, president of Peninsula Gaming Company LLC.

"Luzich said barring no construction delays - the 1,627 slot machine casino portion of the facility and restaurants will open. The racetrack portion of the business will be completed in late 2004.

"Evangeline Downs will hold its first racing season at the Opelousas facility in the spring of 2005.

"…According to Peninsula Gaming, the Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino is the first new facility of its kind in the United States - slot casino combination racetrack - to be built from the ground up…"
