Erections Continue Popping Up On the Strip

Construction of the half-scale replica of the Eiffel Tower is officially underway at the site of the Paris-Las Vegas Casino—due to open in fall 1999—on the Las Vegas Strip.

The Hilton Hotels Corporation's $760 million project is the largest ever undertaken by the company and will also feature the Louvre, the Paris Opera House and the Arc de Triomphe. The Eiffel Tower replica, taken from Gustav Eiffel's original 1889 drawing, will feature a lighting system that mirrors the one added to the original Eiffel Tower for its 100th anniversary. When completed, the structure will reach a height of 540 feet.
