England: Bookies may strike deals with tracks instead of levy

Both sides in the dispute -- the British Horseracing Authority and the bookmakers -- are entrenched in disagreement, The Telegraph said.

The BHA claims that without the £130 million from the levy, courses, races, and jobs will be lost, while the bookies are offering half the amount, claiming revenue decline and offshore competition, the report explained.

With agreement before the deadline unlikely, one suggestion the bookies like is that they would pay courses directly to stage the meetings, The Telegraph reported.
